Kim is currently the Middlegrade/Young Adult Fiction Mentee with Lydia Gregovic at Delacorte Press, where she is working through edits on her YA manuscript The Lightning Heart.

Quick Bio:

Kim Fears was born and raised in New England, where she still lives today. She was an artist and storyteller from a tiny age, filling notebooks with story ideas, and drawing characters in her sketchpad. She finished her first “novel” when she was fourteen and keeps the college-ruled notebook it lives in to remind her to keep telling stories, even if no one’s read them yet.

Kim is eager to see Young Adult and New Adult fantasy and science fiction become more inclusive to characters of color, particularly Black women. She believes women with dark skin and box braids should get to fall in love, wield the sword, and save the day.

She writes lots of Black and Brown women with superpowers, and she adores worlds with larger-than-life monsters and humble heroes. She’s a sucker for a mushy love story and is always down to slay a dragon or two.
